crochet-club 70The International Knitting and Crochet Club of Newport Pagnell

Here at the wool shop we have a round table and you’re always welcome to pop in and knit or crochet with us. If you want some help with a pattern or learning a new technique… or perhaps you just want to meet some new people.

We would like to welcome you to the newly renamed International Knitting and Crochet Club of Newport Pagnell –  (or the wool shop’s knit&natter), a time and place where we get on with our own projects over a cuppa and some good conversation. These reunions take place regularly, once a week, as follows:

Monday from 10am to 12 am Español y Punto. Knitting with Spanish conversation. Please note these are not Spanish lessons, although we will explain grammar points and new words if and as they come up in our conversation. A medium to advanced level of the language is ideal to join this group, although improvers are welcome and will take a lot of value from joining this sessions. Not suitable for completely beginners though. Small fee of £5 – tea and/or coffee included.

Thursday from 2pm to 4pm Come in and join us in a relaxed afternoon and knit or crochet over a cuppa. Small fee of £1 – tea and/or coffee included.

Friday Euroclub from 3pm to 5pm Like the knit and natter but with a European feeling. Do you consider yourself European? Would you like to hear us count stitches in a number of different languages? The common language of this colourful group of creative peeps is English (except when counting stitches!) Open-minded people from outside the EU are also very welcome. Small fee of £1 – (or €1) tea and/or coffee included.

Learn to knit/crochet

One-to-one sessions: Please let me know what techniques you’d like to learn and we’ll arrange a mutually suitable date and a time to run a session just for you. These one-to-one sessions will last about one hour (or a bit longer if you require) and incur a small fee of £15.00. We also have spinning wheels available if you’d like to have a go at learning how to spin your own art yarns.

Group sessions: If you want to get together with your friends and learn to knit we can arrange a time when you can come to the shop, and over a tea/coffee and biscuits you can all learn to knit/improve your knitting skills/learn to read a pattern, etc… . Just  let me know what techniques you’d like to learn and we’ll arrange a mutually suitable date and a time to run a session just for your group. These can  last as long as you want (within shop opening hours, or you can book an evening, subject to availability) and if booking for groups of 3 or more people you can enjoy a reduced fee of £10.00 per person per hour. We also have spinning wheels available if any of you would like to have a go at learning how to spin your own art yarns.

Hi! I would love to learn how to crochet and/or knit, and can’t seem to get the hang of it by watching online tutorials but think I’d really benefit being taught face to face! What kind of group or one to one lessons do you offer, and what are their prices? I have young children but one is starting preschool in the next week but my other is only 1 and I won’t have childcare until after work time (6/7PM) when my partner is back home.

    shop · January 15, 2014 at 9:18 am

    Hi Lauryn
We run crochet lessons on alternate Wednesday afternoons (12:30 to 14:30) and Thursday evenings (18:00 to 20:00). The next available slots are next Wednesday (22nd January) and then Thursday evening of the following week. This evening’s group is fully booked. We have small groups, 5 people maximum, to ensure you all get plenty of attention from the tutor/s. If it’s a one-to-one session you want, please call me at the shop (01234 910547) and I will be able to find a mutually convenient time when I can help. I can crochet at an intermediate level but the true expert is Carol, our tutor, who has been crochetting for more years she cares to admit to 😉 – The 2-hour lesson investment is £20 and this includes a hook, yarn to practice with during the lesson, tea/coffee, and of course, the 2 hours’ tuition. To book your place, please either nip in to the shop, or you can book over the phone with a debit/credit card. There’s a £5 non-refundable deposit to book your place that will go towards the payment for the lesson – i.e. pay £5 on booking, and the remaining £15 when you come for the class.

I hope I’ve answered your query, please contact me if you need any further information or if you want to book a class. By the way, we are child-friendly, and babies are welcome as sometimes we have Max with us (he’s Carol’s grandson, a sweet 7 month old little angel). Although this is a wool shop and not set up with baby-changing facilities, we do have a little play pen we can bring out if your child would be happy playing there, if need be.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    All the best

I have been looking for knitting classes for my 3 granddaughters, 5.50, 7 and 11. I live near high Wycombe in bucks so would be unable to get to the 3.30 children’s class in term time but would be able to on school hols. Is the class still running and would you let me know when next class is. I am an experienced knitter, but self taught, and do not hold needles/ wool correctly and do not wish to pass on my incorrect habit to the girls, thank you, Gail.

Sorry – just spotted this – it’s moved to Wednesday now! Note to self – must update website.

    shop · February 4, 2019 at 8:54 am

Both are correct. We have two established groups for English speaking knitters/crochetters, one on Thursday afternoon from 2 to 4, and another on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8. Take your pick! 🙂
    (Or you can attend both!)

My 10 year old daughter is keen to learn knitting and wondering if you offer basic session for kids? She’s fine with one to one or group session.

    shop · February 4, 2019 at 8:53 am

Hi Prash, Thanks for your interest. Yes, I’d be happy to teach your daughter to knit. 10 years old is a good age to start. Please call us at the shop on 01908 990101 to book her lesson.
